In Somalia, Prime Minister Warns Possible Removal Against Some of His Cabinet ‘Spoilers’

Hot headed President-Prime Minister Relations Unlikely to Resolve Their Political Conflicts

Mogadishu: The leaders of Somalia met Monday with international community at the airport in Mogadishu in an attempt to reduce tensions between the two leaders (PM and President). While both sides agreed to talk about competing claims to Provisional constitution, the issues at the heart of the conflict are unlikely to be resolved anytime soon.

US envoy to the Somalia addresses the press, flanked by fellow members of the UN and EU, after a meeting with Somalia’s warring leaders on Monday in Mogadishu.

Speaking to the press in the capital Mogadishu, Envoy of the United States, reread a statement in which the international members on Friday had expressed readiness to consider “all appropriate measures” against those who undermine the peace, stability and security of the country.

“This is a very clear statement by all international community that there will be consequences for those who try to undermine the peace process. The visit is also meant to highlight the importance of organizing a governing body in the run-up to the election scheduled for the year 2016.

PM Abdiweli Said “I’m actively working with the UN and international communities to implement targeted sanctions against political spoilers (some his cabinet ministers) and those individuals perpetrating the peace and stability of the country”.
He added while he was addressing Somali diaspora “As I stated before, my office is prepared to implement removal from their offices against those who further destabilize the situation, or pursue their own selfish ends by abetting or encouraging the instability”.

The statement will reassign several ministers to different positions, whilst some of them, the interior minister, Justice minister, Foreign minister, Petroleum minister, Finance minister, Planning minister and the minister of defense, have been shown the exit.

In conclusion; one thing bothering me is “Isn’t there some clause in the Somali provisional constitution which says a President must step down if he is mentally incapacitated? And if he refuse isn’t his PM and cabinet legally bound to remove him.
